This week in 3rd grade....
Spelling - The Lesson 16 spelling words this week will all focus on words with the r-controlled vowel. The spelling words will all be spelled with: or, ore, our, oar, and ar. The spelling test will be Friday.
Reading - This week the students will read the fairy tale Lon Po Po which is a Red Riding Hood story from China. In class we will practice using a Venn diagram to compare/contrast, work on identifying prefixes and suffixes, practice identifying and using adjectives that tell “how many” & “what kind”. The reading test on Friday will focus on comparing/contrasting, prefixes and suffixes, and summarizing the Lon Po Po story.
Math - We will begin Chapter 6 in the math book focusing on division. We encourage all the students to keep practicing their multiplication facts at home. Knowing the multiplication facts will help the students with their division facts.
Religion - The students will read in Chapter 7 that Jesus taught about God's Kingdom of love, peace and justice that in in Heaven. We will discuss that Jesus established the Kingdom of God on Earth, and His teaching and miracles were signs of the Kingdom.
Social Studies - In class this week the students will continue to learn that people in a community come from many different places. We will focus on how many immigrants came to the United States through Ellis Island years ago.
Science - The 3rd graders will learn about landforms and other features of the Earth this week. They will also compare/contrast weathering and erosion.
**Friday afternoon the 3rd graders will be able to watch the 4th-8th graders participate in the Spelling Bee!**
