February 13-17

Happy Valentine's Day!! 

**The students will be celebrating Valentine's day Tuesday afternoon. The 3rd graders may bring in valentine cards to exchange Tuesday afternoon. Please make sure that there is no gum, candy, or food attached to the valentines.** 

Spelling - The spelling words this week will be a review of the last four lessons. We will review words with the "or" sound, "ur" sound, prefixes, and suffixes. 

Reading - This week the students will review vocabulary and reading skills learned during the last four lessons. They will read a script, compare and contrast stories, practice identifying the theme of stories, identify and use adjectives, articles, and verbs correctly in sentences. The third graders will also work in class on researching and writing  an informative piece about a president. The students will research one president (Abraham Lincoln or George Washington) and write facts about that president in an informative paper. 

Math - In math this week we will continue working on division facts in Chapter 7. In class we will practice dividing by 7, 8, and 9. The students will also work on solving two-step problems using division and order of operations. 

Religion - This week we will be finishing Chapter 8 in the Religion book. The Ch.8 Test will be on Wednesday for Miss Martinez's class. After, we will begin Chapter 9 focusing on the Church. The 3rd graders will learn that the Church is the Body of Christ, to which all her members belong. They will also learn about Stewardship as the way we appreciate and use God's gifts to serve God and others.

Social Studies - In Social Studies class the students will continue to learn more about the 5 different regions of the United States. They will learn about the different climates, resources, animals, and plants in each region. They will also explore how humans have adapted to their environments in these regions. 

Science - In Science class this week the students will learn about soil and the composition of soil. They will learn about the importance of conserving our natural resources and discuss ways that we can conserve resources. The Unit C Ch.2 Test will be later next week.
